Continental’s U.S. Investment Tops $1.5 Billion

April 16, 2024

Continental Tire the Americas LLC has invested more than $1.5 billion in its United States-based manufacturing plants over the last 10 years.

Three of those plants are celebrating key anniversaries in 2024.

Continental’s commercial truck tire manufacturing plant in Clinton, Miss., opened five years ago. The company’s passenger tire plant in Sumter, S.C., opened in 2014, according to Continental officials. And Continental’s Mount Vernon, Ill., plant, which builds both passenger and commercial truck tires, opened in 1974.

Together, the plants have a total, annual production capacity of more than 16 million tires – serving both the original equipment and replacement channels – and employ nearly 6,000 people, according to Continental officials.

“We have strategically and consistently enhanced (our) manufacturing footprint to support growth in the American market,” says Jochen Etzel, CEO of Continental Tire the Americas.

“Our manufacturing investments allow us to deliver premium products and services to customers and meet the U.S. market demand, creating continued value for all stakeholders,” he adds.

Continental also has manufacturing facilities in Barnesville, Ga., and Plymouth, Ind. The latter plant produces Hoosier brand racing tires.
